John Flatley, Managing Principal

John Flatley provides strategic counsel to a number of corporate and trade association clients concentrating on a wide-range of issues.

John’s duties build on his strong public affairs background in government, coalition and association management.

Prior to joining Navista Association Management Strategies, John served as a Lobbyist for a national trade association. He represented member companies before Congress and the Administration, built coalitions to support industry efforts and provided strategic counsel on numerous industry-related media campaigns.

In addition, John served as an aide in the Washington, DC office of Governor Tommy Thompson and as a legislative assistant to U.S. Representative Steve Gunderson.

John has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Lee Coogan, Principal & CFO

Lee Coogan came to the association management world after having spent the first 21 years of his career working in industry. After spending five years with Ford Motor Company, Lee spent the next 16 years as a sales and marketing executive with Waverly Mineral Products, an industrial and consumer products company. During his time at Waverly Lee served in a variety of senior positions, including National Sales Manager and Vice President of Sales and Marketing before being named Executive Vice President.

In 1995, Lee helped to launch the Navista Association Management Strategies. Since that time he has provided management and strategic counsel, as well as marketing, membership development and financial services to several of the firm's association clients.

Lee has a B.A. in History and Political Science from Rollins College.

Chris Murphy, Senior Vice President

Chris Murphy has over 16 years association management experience providing executive management and leadership to a variety of national and international trade associations and professional societies. In addition, Chris has an extensive background in meeting management, having planned hundreds of meetings within the United States and as far away as Denmark and Singapore. Additionally, Chris sits on the Advisory Board for Conference Direct a full service meeting solutions company that offers contract negotiation/site-selection, conference management, housing and registration services.

Prior to joining Navista Association Management Strategies Chris served as Chief Operating Officer for another Washington, DC based association management company. He began his career in Marketing with the First National Bank of Chicago and the United States Department of Treasury, Financial Management Service.

Chris has a B.S. in Business Administration and Marketing from the University of Maryland, College Park. He has also earned numerous continuing education credits including participation in the AMC Institute (formerly the International Association of Association Management Companies) CEO Road Show, an HR Generalist Certificate from the Society of Human Resource Managers and continuing education certificates in COBRA Compliance, Personnel Law for Managers and Supervisors and Human Resources Law.

Chris is a member of the AMC Institute, American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and the Society of Human Resource Professionals (SHRM).

Carrie Hoffman, Senior Account Executive

Carrie Hoffman brings over nine years of association and program management experience to Navista Association Management Strategies clients. Carrie has worked for several national and regional associations.

Prior to joining AMS Carrie served as the Director of Events and Member Services for the Decorative Plumbing and Hardware Association and the Property Management Association. Carrie has managed meetings and trade shows in a variety of sizes and locations throughout the country. She has also planned several membership marketing campaigns and provided strategic counsel to association boards and committees.

She has a B.A. in Communications from Denison University.

Rebecca Dietrich, Account Executive

Becca Dietrich brings over ten years of association management experience to Navista Association Management Strategies.  Becca has worked for several national and international associations./p>

Prior to joining AMS, Becca served as the Global Operations Manager for Disaster Recovery Institute International and Executive Director of the Environmental Markets Association.  Becca has also managed meetings and trade shows in a variety of sizes and location throughout the country.  Moreover, Becca has a wide-range of experience from membership recruitment to certification program management to website development.

Becca has a Masters of Public Administration with a concentration in nonprofit management from George Mason University and a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Allegheny College.

Cheryl Clark, Account Executive

Cheryl Clark brings over 25 years of experience in the tradeshow and meetings management industry as well as solid experience in membership marketing.

Prior to joining Navista Association Management Strategies, Cheryl served as the Executive Director of the Food Processing Machinery Expo, a 200,000 square foot exposition with over 400 exhibitors and over 20,000 attendees. All aspects of trade show management were supervised by Cheryl including marketing, sales and logistics. In her role as Executive Director, Cheryl was instrumental in building corporate membership within the organization by leading marketing campaigns that explained association benefits beyond trade show participation.

Cheryl also was also responsible for managing meetings ranging in size from 30 to 300 people. These meetings included Executive Board Meetings and Council Meetings which served different constituencies and require different approaches in terms of marketing and venues.

During her time at the Food Processing Machinery Association, Cheryl not only grew the exposition in terms of exhibitors, but in member-exhibitors as well.

Currently, Cheryl serves as the Director of Events for the National Association for Surface Finishing (NASF). In this role she manages SUR/FIN, the association’s trade show as well as their legislative conference and management conference. Working closely with the committees of each event, she has developed programs and marketing strategies to make each event successful.

As Director of Events, Cheryl is very much involved with NASF’s Technical Conference Program (held in conjunction with SUR/FIN, from the initial Call for Papers to the on-site presentations. Cheryl works with the Technical Conference Chairman to ensure that the conference schedule is complete, organized and well managed. As liaison with conference speakers, she has developed a keen awareness of their needs and works closely with them to ensure a successful program. Cheryl also provides input into the marketing of the Technical Conference in terms of both the website and in printed materials.

Cheryl has a B.S. in Public Administration from George Mason University and is a member of the International Association of Exposition Managers.

Tracye Thomas , Director of Accounting

Tracye Thomas, a native Washingtonian has worked in the accounting field over twenty years, where she received her AA from Prince George's Community College. She started in the banking industry, where she improved her abilities in the finance world. She then decided to make a career move to the world of law. The prestiges firm of Arnold & Porter employed her for many years. She was able to work in the fast paced world of movers and shakers. She then made a career move to the Strat@comm team; where she held a position as Assistant Controller for six years. Her most recent endeavor moved her to Association Management Strategies as Director of Accounting. Her dreams are to put her skills to use creating an accounting team that will help AMS strive and prosper in the association business.
